Prenatal care is available for both routine and high-risk
pregnancies. Our physicians have extensive training
in managing complicated pregnancies. If necessary, consultations
with maternal-fetal medicine specialists are readily
available.
Prenatal
Orientation
The wonder of pregnancy and childbirth is truly a unique
experience, and we are honored and grateful to our patients
for allowing us to participate in such a joyous event.
We will do everything possible to make this occasion
a truly blessed, memorable experience.
Prenatal Class Schedule
The parent education department of Medical City Dallas
offers prenatal classes. Please refer to the schedule
that was given to you in your “New OB Bag”
at your initial visit or call 972-566-7153 for additional
information.
Prenatal Visits
The timing of prenatal visits will depend on your current
health and pregnancy risk factors.
For the routine, uncomplicated pregnancies, prenatal
visits are scheduled approximately every 4 weeks until
28 weeks gestation. After 28 weeks, prenatal visits
are scheduled every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, at which
time weekly visits will be scheduled until delivery.
For complicated pregnancies, more frequent prenatal
visits may be recommended at the discretion of your
physician.
Although each patient will have a primary Obstetrician,
typically all patients will meet with all of our physicians
during the course of the pregnancy. In meeting with
all of the physicians, our hope is that each patient
will establish a comfortable relationship with each
physician, as it is likely that at some point during
your pregnancy any one of our physicians could be providing
to you either medical advice or direct patient care.
Prenatal Ultrasound
The timing of a prenatal ultrasound depends on your
medical history, pregnancy risk factors, and current
pregnancy problems.
Ultrasounds that are considered “medically necessary”
are usually covered (partially covered in some cases)
by your insurance company. Ultrasounds ordered strictly
for determination of the sex of the fetus are usually
NOT considered medically necessary by insurance companies.
Please contact your insurance company directly to obtain
information regarding your specific obstetrical insurance
benefits.
Each patient will typically receive at least one ultrasound
during their pregnancy. For complicated pregnancies,
multiple ultrasounds may be required.
Ultrasound is a non-invasive method of evaluating the
anatomy of the fetus. Ultrasound cannot definitively
determine whether or not your baby will be healthy.
Ultrasound cannot definitively determine if your baby
will have mental or physical deficits. Unfortunately,
there is not any blood or radiology test, which can
guarantee a “perfect baby”.
